Finding your donor: A guide to Cryos’ sperm donor search

One of the first steps in the process of finding the perfect sperm donor for you is to browse through Cryos’ sperm donor search. In the donor search, you will find hundreds of donors with different ethnicities and backgrounds to choose from. Searching for your sperm donor can seem a bit overwhelming at first until you have become familiarised with the different functions, filters and icons available. As an aid in your search, we here provide you with a guide on how to navigate through Cryos’ donor search.

Step 1: Set up an account to start your sperm donor search

Before you can start navigating through the sperm donor search, it is a prerequisite that you register by setting up a free account. The account must be created in order for Cryos to secure the donors’ information and ensure it is only available to people for whom it is relevant (cf. General Data Protection Regulation). With an account you get free access to information about all Cryos sperm donors – information provided by the donors themselves.

Go to the website dk.cryosinternational.com, and click on ‘Donor Search’ in the menu. On this page, you have the option of either creating a profile or to log in to an existing profile. If you are already registered, you can log in. If you don’t have an account, click on ‘Create private account’, and choose a username and password for your profile. Once the account is created, you can log in.

Step 2: Select your way of treatment

Once you are logged into your account, you need to select your preferred way of treatment. There are two options to choose from: Clinical treatment and Home treatment.

If you are going to be treated at a clinic or a hospital, you should choose ‘Clinical treatment’. If you are going to be treated at home by an authorised healthcare professional, you should choose ‘Home treatment’. You can always go back and change your preferred way of treatment if needed.

Step 3: Filter your search

The next step in your donor search is to filter the sperm donors. Filtering the donors will help narrow down the number of donors shown and sort out donors that are not relevant to you.

You first need to select your ‘Country of residence’ and ‘Country of treatment’, as shown below. This is an essential step for you to be able to select your donor and add straws to the basket. This way, only donors who haven’t exceeded the pregnancy quota in your country are available for purchase.

Now you can set one or more filters to further narrow down your donor search. You can filter the donors based on several factors (see below), including anonymity, race, type of profile, hair colour, ICI/IUI, motility (MOT), blood type, CMV status and more. You can also search for a specific donor if you have the donor number or name.

Step 4: See donor information

Once you have narrowed down your search using the available filters, you can read more information about each donor.

Click on ‘See details’ below a donor name. You can now see basic information about the donor (anonymity, race, hair colour etc.), the donor’s sperm stock and pricing. You can also see whether any pregnancies have been reported with the donor. Furthermore, donors with an Extended profile have provided additional information, which you can access by clicking on the different icons as circled in the picture below.

The icons represent the following:

  • Speaker/audio: Listen to the donor’s voice
  • Camera:  See the donor’s child photos
  • Document: See the donor’s extended profile
  • Speech bubble: Read our staff impression of the donor
  • Heart: See the results of the donor’s emotional intelligence (EQ) test
  • Star: See if the donor has been purchased yet. If the star is grey, the donor has been purchased by others before. If the star is black, you have the option of getting exclusivity over the donor by purchasing or reserving all available straws.

Do you like a particular donor? Then you should add the donor to your favourites by checking off the box below the icons. This helps you find the donor again at a later time.

Step 5: Purchasing donor sperm

Once you have been through the process and found your favourite sperm donor, the final step is to order the donor sperm. If you are in doubt about how much to order, you can read the blog post ‘How much donor sperm should you order?

When you click on your selected donor, a chart appears in the bottom of the page. Click on the question marks (‘?’) in each column if you need clarification about the meaning of the words.

Once you have decided which type of sperm and the quantity you wish to purchase, use the +/- signs under ‘Purchase’ or ‘Reserve’ to specify the quantity (see below). You can read more about Reservation of donor sperm here.

Click on ‘Add to basket’. A pop-up window confirms that the straws have been added to your basket, and you can now click on ‘Proceed to checkout’ if you are ready to purchase. In the pop-up window, the Quota Reservation is automatically added to your basket to ensure the pregnancy quota is not exceeded.
